Party for Books

I attended the above function yesterday and although I must say it wasn't what I initially had in mind (coz the dark bar with nyamchom servings was a far cry from the cozy pink poster), I think the idea is exceptional. I recently commented on a blog about the importance of cultivating a reading culture in children from an early age. Well truth be told, there are many who would like to but just don't have access to books. The books collected at the above drive were just the odd story books people had lying around their homes. Not text books or inspirational books but just stories to capture the young onnes imaginations.

I think it was a great idea and wish the young lady behind it all, great success in the campaign. You have my support 110%!!

this is such a good idea...cos' nowadays if you notice, english has become so basic...there are so many distractions as to what else you could do as a kid aside from pick up a novel to read...and its a pity really. cos' all you have to do is listen to someone speak, look at how old they are and just feel bad for them....the same goes to written stuff..its just a mess. events like this one should happen more often...good stuff! ;-)

Agreed. You know, there's a day I was watching news and there was a boy in class 8 being interviewed. The boy could not construct a single sentence in English. Not 1. And he couldn't do Swahili either. It was all sheng. I was so sad!

Books are truly the answer.
